“Art is an activity that surprises, excites, challenges and demands the extremes of spontaneity and discipline.
For much of my work I use mixed media and experimentation, trusting instinctively the creative process to produce abstract and representational works on canvas and paper”.
Maryika Welter's art is an emotional response to an experience or concept and is developed in 3 stages:
Firstly, the ‘ contemplation ' process: physical and mental, the gathering of the information.
Secondly, sorting for ‘ clarity ' or the usefulness of the relevant information.
Thirdly, the ‘ conclusion ' : an end product or information that is expressed interpretively.
Often Maryika's art is a response to an experience or emotion that demands visual expression.
In addition, some of Maryika's works are purely loose and experimental, explorative of particular painterly techniques and mediums (for example, mulberry paper on canvas, or rusting farm implements left to organically melt into a canvas).
Overall, Maryika's inspiration comes from the land, nature and the human form.
