Leaving home at an early age, Maria Cosgrove first worked in the bush as a housemaid then a governess, and that was the beginning of a great love affair with Queensland's moody and beautiful land, from the reef to the outback.

Thirty years and many lifetimes later the affair continues, and life has given Maria the opportunity to express the feelings into works on board. Her pieces are whatever the viewer wants them to be: “I think of a place a time, a feeling, then the board takes over texture, colour, shapes emerge, with almost a will of their own”.

Maria's work is represented, already in many corporate and private collections throughout Australia and New Zealand , London.

Bold, innovative and excitingly textural, each piece is a brave step away from the standard, grand, serene, vibrant… No matter what the requirement, Maria delivers original modern pieces to suit.

She sees the shape and colour of the landscape blending and ever changing, never to conform or to be totally controlled (“a bit like myself really”).

Maria doesn't follow any school of art..She refuses to make introspective claims for her abstract pieces and her creativity is intuitive. That is what my work is about: freedom of the soul, energy and always different!
